Purses, bags, and sacks galore

One of my favorite things to make is bags. Of all shapes and sizes. I don't use patterns. I look for neat purses/bags online (love Pinterest!) and I eyeball the photos until I think I can make it myself.

I love a challenge. My husband would say that I bite off more than I can chew and then I figure out how to swallow it after the fact, instead of spitting some out (or saying "no, I'm too busy").

So when a client calls up and says, "I have this project and I think you can do it, will you?" I jump on it.

Here are some samples of random things I've made for a customer. I have so many that I never got pictures of also. I need to remember to "pics or it didn't happen."

Lengthening a waistline trick

Cut twice and it's still too short? Well, you might not be able to add inches to a piece of 2x4 that you mis-measured, but I can add inches to the waistline of a dress.

Waistline looks a little wonky this high up.

Remove skirt portion, find awesome lace, add a new waistband. Viola! Skirt sits at the hips now.

Vintage is cool, but fur isn't

So I have this friend. She's my hairdresser. She can do something I can't, she can make my hair look fabulous. But she has a vintage shopping problem. That's just fine with me, we work on trade (the best money system).

She buys lots of clothes (you'll see many pictures on my site for alterations–most of those are for her) and I alter them to fit her unreasonably tiny self.

Take something old and make it new again.

Remove yucky fabric buttons and old smelly fur.

Add simple, elegant crushed velour border and  matching buttons.

 

Custom ordered - Fancy Apron

This custom apron is a design that I created. I mixed some fun and frilly 50s style apron designs with a simple half apron style. It made the perfect housewarming gift for a friend.
